Austin Tracy Gifted and Talented students had the opportunity to tour the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science located on Western Kentucky University's campus. The Gatton Academy is Kentucky's first residential STEM Academy. It is a two year residential program for students interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Instead of spending their junior and seniors years in traditional high schools, Gatton Academy students take all of their course work through WKU. Students that complete the program will earn a minimum of 60 college credit hours before they graduate! The Gatton Academy empowers exceptional young scientists and mathematicians to learn in an environment that offers advanced educational opportunities while living in a community that is supportive and fun.
Austin Tracy students had the opportunity to tour campus, listen to guest lectures, and experience what a "day in the life" of a Gatton Academy student would be like. Overall, our students were able to see the exceptional opportunities that are available if they continue working hard each day. We have some of the best and brightest at Austin Tracy. We want to empower our students with the belief that they can compete with the best and brightest!
